Barbara Pool Fenzl has played many roles on the American culinary stage: owner of Les Gourmettes Cooking School in Phoenix, established in 1983 and closed in 2018; television host of the 13-week PBS series, “Savor the Southwest,” and host
of KAET-TV’s last twelve cooking-related pledge drives and a regular guest on “Your Life A to Z,” a local morning television show. She is the author of Southwest the Beautiful Cookbook, Savor the Southwest, and Seasonal Southwest Cooking.

Besides teaching at her own cooking school, she was a renowned cooking teacher all over the United States, the Périgord region of France, and in Mexico (Rancho La Puerta). She is former food editor of Southwest Passages and Phoenix Home and Garden magazines and was a frequent contributor to Bon Appétit magazine and other national publications. She is the past president of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, founder and past president of the Arizona Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier; and a past member of the James Beard Foundation Restaurant Awards Committee.
